Inclusivity

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines inclusivity as “the quality of trying to include many different types of people and treat them all fairly and equally”.
Merriam Webster defines inclusivity as “the quality or state of being inclusive”. Inclusive, in turn, is defined as:

  • Including everything
  • Being open to everyone
  • Not being limited or exclusionary to certain people

The United Nations defines social inclusion as “the process of improving the terms of participation in society, particularly for people who are disadvantaged, through enhancing opportunities, access to resources, voice and respect for rights”.

Being inclusive means you:

  • Use your cognitive, affective, and behavioural skills to acknowledge and respect different ideas and behaviours
  • Are curious, flexible, and open to different ways of thinking and behaving
  • Are non-judgmental when people behave differently towards you
  • Recognize biases and assumptions you may have or make towards others

The FUSION Curriculum

The FUSION curriculum training library currently has modules for skill-development in problem solving, communication, and metacognition. To date, we have implemented this training with more than 2,000 students and alumni across our six member universities. At the time of this application, FUSION has developed content for three additional skill training modules: adaptability, collaboration, and inclusivity.
